When You Have Unanswered Questions.....
Have you ever wondered why herbivores are bigger than carnivores? If yes, your question will be answered. The moose is among the biggest herbivores out there. Moose can weight up to 1,800 pounds. To answer the question you must look at the food chain. Plants are the primary producers of energy. Moose eats plants. Moose then gains the energy from the plants. The predator then eats the moose. The predator then gains energy from the moose. The catch is you loose energy on every step up the food chain. Moose gets almost all of the energy from the plant. The predator does not get nearly as much. This is why moose get so big. Also predators have to consume more animals to get the energy the need to survive. This is why there are not many giant predators. All ecosystems have a higher rate of prey compared to predators. I would be thankful for this system because if it did not work this way we would have no peaceful herbivores. Almost all the animals would be predators.
When you run into a glass door.....
We have all done it. Scientists are currently developing glass that will have patterns on it for birds to see. 600 million birds die a year in North America by hitting a window. This tragedy always makes me jump. I always then have a sad feeling knowing a bird died. Bird populations are highly threatened by window accidents. These windows with patterns might not be on the market soon because of a lack of people researching and constructing. Only problem with the research is when they develop a pattern that does not work the bird dies. That is a major downer.
Endangered Animal Watch
Todays endangered animal is the Black Rhino. These creatures are on the critically endangered list just like the mountain gorilla and the sumatran tiger. The native habitat for the black rhino is in Africa. The reason these animals are close to extinction because of European hunters. There are 4,848 black rhinos left in the world.
